Our 113th Reunion
Saturday, July 28 and Sunday July 29, 2018
Reunion Theme: The 275th Anniversary of the Arrival of the Glattfelder Family in America
Fellow members of the Glattfelder family:
The 113th annual family reunion, celebrating the 275th anniversary of the arrival of our family in America, will be held at Heimwald Park, Glatfelters, (near Seven Valleys, Pa.) on Saturday, July 28 and Sunday, July 29, 2018. For those using GPS devices, the park address is 6581 Glatfelters Station Road, Seven Valleys, Pa. 17360.
As always, you should use the parking lot of the York County Heritage Rail-Trail, across the street from the park. Shuttle vans operated by the Seven Valleys Fire Police will be available to take you to the park.
Please note: Per the Charter of Incorporation granted by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in 1910, Heimwald Park is to be alcohol-free. Kindly respect our governing document by not bringing alcohol into the park.
A motor coach tour of sites pertaining to the early generations of Glattfelders in America will depart from the Rail-Trail parking lot at 9:00 AM on Saturday July 28. The tour will include four local cemeteries, a boxed lunch at Brown's Orchard and Farm Market, and several hours at the Colonial Complex operated by the York History Center. The tour coincides with the YHC's annual "Colonial York Day" with living history demonstrations.
Ever wonder what life was like during the time of Casper and his sons? The York History Center visit will allow you to engage reenactors, demonstrators, and living historians, as they bring life in thel 8th century to modern York. The family activity area will feature a typical, full-size log home, furnished with a rope bed and a mattress sack ready to be stuffed with straw. "Chores" and games round out the activities. Meet Baron Von Steuben, the man credited with professionalizing the Continental Army. See (and hear) mortar demonstrations.
The cost per person for the bus trip is $29.00. This does not include the Saturday picnic which requires separate registration (see link below).
On July 28, the park will be open for picnicking beginning at 4:00 PM. No formal program is planned until the arrival of the Brodbecks Band at 5:00 PM. Around that time, some of York County's finest foods will be served: Sechrist hot dogs (with optional sauerkraut), fresh Brenneman chow-chow, soft pretzels and Carmen's ice cream. Registration fee for the picnic is $5.00.
Please open this link and fill out the Registration Form. Please send your Reservation Form no later than July 10th. Registration is necessary so that adequate food can be ordered.
On July 29, the registration desk will open at 11 AM. The catered meal will begin at 12:30 PM. We ask you to be in the park and seated before 12:30. If you are able, we encourage you to bring something to be placed on the family dessert table.
The charge for the catered meal is $15.00 for adults and $10.00 for children 6 - 12 years. Included in the adult registration is a commemorative 275th anniversary pin. This year, we will have some typical Pennsylvania Dutch fare - Hog Maw or Potpie. There is also a vegetarian option.
Please note: You may attend the Sunday program without ordering a meal. You may bring your own lunch, however, registration is still required.
Various souvenir items will be available for sale, including family sweatshirts, polo shirts, stationary, 100th Reunion booklets, and various DVDs. (Sorry, we cannot take credit cards.)
Another Anniversary Reunion highlight:
In addition to the various activities and new merchandise items at this year's celebration of the 275th anniversary of Casper Glattfelder coming to America, there will be a dedication of a new plaque at Heimwald Park. Dr. Noah Glattfelder, whose book on the descendants of Casper helped lead to the reunions and the CGAA, will be honored with a plaque similar to the one in honor of longtime CGAA member and historian Dr. Charles H. Glatfelter.
See you at the Reunion!
